On Friday, July 8, at the popular Food Garden Eatery located inside Tijuana’s Plaza Rio, Borizteca Boxing held their latest Press Conference to announce the combatants in their upcoming event of Friday, July 15th at the Salon Mezzanine in Tijuana. “We are now entering a new phase in our promotional direction,” stated Saul Rios, CEO of the Borizteca Boxing Management Group. “We will now be alternating the headliners on our fight cards to feature not only the top prospects from the United States but also the best from Tijuana.

“Our upcoming show of July 15 is an example of this change in direction. On that night, we will feature the crowd favorites of Tijuana. Those who have displayed great showmanship in all of their fights. Five of the top prospects on this “Viva Tijuana” boxing card, Bryan Figueroa, Tania Enriquez, Alfredo Ledezma, Ricardo “Maykito” Martinez and Hector Valdez are undefeated and together have a combined record of 37 wins without a loss.”

The formidable

The formidable Bryan “The Kid” Figueroa has yet to meet his match.

In their eight round Main Event, they have featherweight Bryan “The Kid” Figueroa (10-0, 4 KOs) of Tijuana going up against Ensenada’s Hector “Estudiante” Ambriz (5-3-1, 3 KOs). Voted Tijuana’s 2015 Fighter of the Year, Figueroa is trained by ex-pro boxer Javier Sarmiento, Oscar Díaz, and Jason Figueroa. In just 15 months as a professional, the 17-year-old has amassed 10 victories without a defeat and obtained a WBC regional title. His last bout was on February 6th of this year. On that night he defeated lightweight Ulises Jimenez in the second defense of his title. Ambriz, who has an extensive amateur background which includes boxing in the 2014 Mexican Olympic Elimination rounds, is coming into this fight off two victories and a draw in his last three matches. In his last fight, Ambriz knocked out Adrian Ramos in the fifth round of a scheduled six-rounder. Ambriz is trained by the well respected José Guardado and Óscar “Vaquero” Maldonado.

In the eight round, co-main event, it will be Tania “La Chula” Enriquez (8-0, 5 KOs) going up against the always tough Carol Castro (6-7) of Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico. Tania, the younger sister of Kenia Enriquez, the former WBO female World Flyweight Champion, is a 19-year-old southpaw. As an amateur, Tania was often fighting against boys. Her overall record as an Amateur was 68-8 with 15 KOs of boys. After her boxing career ends, she’d like to remain in the sports field. Her favorite boxer is Juan Manuel Marquez.

Also featured is Alfredo “Pepe el Toro” Ledezma (6-0, 2 KOs) who will face Julio Cesar Figueroa (0-2) of Camalu. In Ledezma’s last bout – May 13, 2016, in the Borizteca “Redemption” Show, the 17-year-old scored a spectacular second round knockout of Dario Cervantes. In just one year, Ledezma, a student at Cobach High School in Tijuana, with little or no amateur experience, snatched up six victories and a regional title.

One of the least favorite things a boxer has to do is answer these monotonous, repetitive, mundane questions from the media. “Yes, I’m in the best shape ever. Am I going for the knockout? If the knockout comes, so be it.” (top to bottom, l to r) welterweight Ricardo Martinez, interviewer/color commentator Shary Sarmiento, the newest member of the Borizteca Boxing Announcing team. Sarmiento has experience on TV, plus she runs her own dance company. Next, we have the headliner Bryan Figueroa followed by super lightweight Alfredo Ledezma giving us his thoughts.

On the undercard, they have 22-year-old middleweight Ricardo “Maikito” Martínez (7-0, 4 KOs) of Tijuana, the son of the legendary flyweight Miguel “Maikito” Martinez (41-28-1, 31 KOs), a life-long Tijuana resident. Over the years, Martinez has benefitted from getting help from his brother, welterweight Miguel “Maykito” Martinez Jr. and brother-in-law, middleweight Victor “Sina” Fonseca. Both are above average power punchers.

Also on the undercard is featherweight Hector Valdez (6-0, 5 KOs) from Dallas, Texas who will be facing the dreaded TBA (to be announced) fighter. After winning five straight by knockout, Valdez had to settle for a unanimous decision victory in his last bout with 28-year-old Naciff Castillo (17-7-2, 5 KOs).

Returning from Borizteca’s May 13th “Redemption” card are San Diego’s super lightweight Armando Tovar (3-1, 3 KOs) from the House of Boxing who will be making his fifth Salon Mezzanine appearance against Mario Ramirez from Camalú, Baja California, Mexico who will be making his pro-debut. Last time out, Tovar stopped Ramon Palma after just 43 seconds into the first round. They also have featherweight Roberto “Ram” Meza (1-0, 1 KO), from the Sarabia Gym, Pico Rivera, Calif. gym facing Alfonso Sandoval (0-11) from Tijuana plus super welterweight Kevin “KO” Ottley 1-0 (1 KO) from Baltimore, Maryland facing Alexis Zamarripa of Camalu who will be making his pro-debut. Ottley now trains at the Bomber Squad Boxing Academy in El Cajon, Calif.

Two welterweights from Armando’s Gym in Spring Valley, Calif. – Edgar Valadez and Ricardo Valdovinos will also be making their pro-debuts. Valadez is set to face Hugo Guitierrez (0-5-1) of Tijuana and Valdovinos will face Juan Armendaris of Mexicali who will also be making his professional debut.
