While the 25 year-old Danny Roman (17-2-1, 5 KOs) makes the second defense of his WBA NABA Super Bantamweight Title on Friday night against 23 year-old lefty Ramiro “Zurdo” Robles (12-4-1, 7 KOs) of Guanajuato, Mexico in Thompson Boxing Promotions “New Blood” 10-round main event at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, Calif., there’s a second bout of major interest on the undercard. Two very popular boxers from our local USA Amateur Boxing program, LBC 44 CAL Border, will be going head to head on the undercard.

Thursday's weigh-in results: Danny Roman (122 lbs.) makes the second defense of his WBA NABA Super Bantamweight Title on Friday night against 23 year-old lefty Ramiro “Zurdo” Robles (12-4-1, 7 KOs)

Thursday’s weigh-in results for the WBA super bantamweight championship: Danny Roman (l), 122 lbs. and Ramiro “Zurdo” Robles (r) 123.9 lbs.

Fernando Fuentes (6-6, 1 KO, 126.6 lbs.), a 21 year-old, super featherweight from Hemet, Calif., will be facing Jorge “Tito” Ruiz (9-2, 3 KOs, 127 lbs.) a 24 year-old from San Diego, Calif. Both boxers have been inactive since August of last year. While Fuentes trains with his Dad, San Diego’s Ruiz trains at the Undisputed Downtown gym with Jose Cital.

Fernando Fuentes (6-6, 1 KO, 126.6 lbs.), a 21 year-old, super featherweight from Hemet, Calif., will be facing Jorge “Tito” Ruiz (9-2, 3 KOs, 127 lbs.) a 24 year-old from San Diego, Calif.

The Los Angeles-based Roman, who had his training camp at the Maywood Boxing Gym in East LA, is currently ranked #14 in the world by the WBA. He weighed in at 122 lbs. while Robles weighed 123.9 lbs. Since Robles weighed over the contracted weight for a super bantamweight, he will not be fighting for the super bantamweight title if he should upset Roman.

Roman’s thoughts on fighting a lefty: “It’s a little awkward at first trying to find your distance, but overall I don’t think it’s that hard. The main focus will be looking out for the head butts and punches coming from that left hand. We made some strategy adjustments here and there to prepare for a lefty. I got excellent sparring with Isaac Zarate, who is a southpaw. We would go 10 and 12 rounds. It was a great training camp. I’m ready to defend my title on Friday night. Of course, my ultimate goal is to win a world title. The most important thing is being ready for anything because this is the year we can make a jump to better competition. I know I have what it takes to fight the best. I just keep training hard and never lose focus.”
