The following Friday, April 11, at 8 p.m., Gesta (26-1-1, 14 KOs) will be making his long anticipated return to the ring after his loss in that IBF Championship bout to Miguel Vazquez on December 8, 2012. On April 11, he’ll face Mexico City’s Edgar “Basuras” Riovalle (37-17-2, 26 KOs) at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

Below is a video from one of Edgar Riovalle’s past fights

We also have highlights from that ill-fated 12-8-12 match, the one that derailed Gesta’s boxing career. In that Gesta vs Miguel Vazquez match, Gesta was pot-shotted by Vazquez who spent the entire fight either running or circling about the ring. The blame for it being a dull fight was placed on Gesta’s shoulders, who was criticized for not cutting off the ring.

“I’m happy that there has finally been an opponent announced for my fight.” said Gesta. “I’m really looking forward to putting on an exciting show for my fans. My goal is to get back in the world title mix and it starts with Riovalle. I don’t know much about him, only that he’s coming to win. With over 50 fights, he has a lot of experience, so I know he’ll have some tricks up his sleeve.  I’ll be ready for anything he comes up with.

“Looking forward to seeing you at Ringside at Del Mar on the Del Mar Fairgrounds which is located at 2260 Jimmy Durante Boulevard in Del Mar. On the night of my fight, the doors will open at 7 p.m. and the show’s first of seven bouts is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.”

The co-main event features Elias Espadas (5-1, 3 KOs) against a rival to be announced.

The rest of the undercard has Manuel “Venado” Ceballos (1-0, 1 KO) of Lakeside by way of Merida, Yucatan, Mexico going up against Payton Boyea (0-4) of Los Angeles in a 4-round Light-Heavyweight bout. Featherweights Roque “Rocky” Ramos (3-0, 1 KO) of Vista versus Luis Silva (0-3) from Tijuana. In a cross-town rivalry fight Prince “Tiger” Smalls (3-0) of San Diego and Michael Haigood (0-2) of La Mesa square off in a 4-round Super-Bantamweight bout.  Featherweights Jorge “Tito” Ruiz (5-1, 2 KOs) of Chula Vista will face Victor Serrano (3-4, 1 KO) of Ensenada. Lightweight Anecito “Don Don” Gesta (2-2) of San Diego will face Ricky Hood also from the San Diego Combat Academy who will be making his Pro-debut.

The “Ringside at Del Mar” live boxing show is being sponsored in part by 7UPJoel Diaz Training CampEl Latino Newspaper, 2014 Fab Fair, Rincon del Mar Restaurant, Virtual Tax Solutions, Cotixan Mexican Food, Mi Familia Market, Elite Pro Nutrition, and MyAttorney911.
