San Diego’s Liz Carmouche, who recently fought Roudy Ronda Rousey in the UFC’s first-ever women’s MMA bout – is now scheduled to face Miesha Tate on Fox 8’s main card of July 27. On Wednesday, the UFC officially announced the fight which was first rumored on UFC Tonight on Tuesday evening.

Since Carmouche (8-3), who trains at the San Diego Combat Academy in Mission Valley under the tutelage Manny Hernandez, came the closest to defeating Rousey, it appears they’ve now set her up as the gate keeper for any of Rousey’s future challengers.

This turned out to be Liz Carmouche’s finest moment in the fight. After getting Rousey in the head lock, Rousey began to dig her teeth into Carmouche’s arm to get loose. All photos: Jeff Gross/Getty Images

Tate (12-3) lost her Strikeforce Championship to Rousey by armbar, then bounced back with an armbar submission of her own against Julie Kedzie. Like Carmouche, Tate has already made her Octagon debut, losing to Cat Zingano on the Main Card of the TUF 17 Finale in Las Vegas. She not only suffered the loss, but also lost an opportunity to coach against Rousey on TUF 18 which would have given her a second opportunity to face Rousey.

As a result, we now have two really tough female mixed martial artists squaring off on July 27 at the KeyArena in Seattle. In the evening’s Main Event, they’re featuring flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson putting his belt on the line against John Moraga.
