On January 25, 2013, Gary Shaw Productions is scheduled to have his first of “more to come boxing events in 2013” at the Chumash Resort Casino in Santa Ynez, California. The upcoming show is entitled “Central Coast Championship Night.” You talk about the use of hyperbole. Mr. Shaw is reaching here – especially when his Main Event features super bantamweights Roman Morales, 13-0 (6 KOs) of San Ardo, California going up against Jose Iniguez, 6-14 (1 KO) of Tijuana, B. C., Mexico, in an eight-round bout. If the Las Vegas odds makers were putting out a line on this bout, it would be around a million to one.

Jose Iniguez is short and therefore he has to be a bulldog in the ring

That being said, there is a four round, female, super flyweight bout, between Maria Suarez (2-0-1) in a rematch with Abigail Castaneda (3-1-2) of Torrance, California, that should be a show stopper. Both young ladies are skilled professionals who go full bore every time they step in the ring. In their first fight on September 21, 2012, Castaneda, 114 pounds, fought to a four-round majority draw against Suarez who weighed in at 113 pounds.

While both gals have movie star good looks, they’ve also led some very, let’s say interesting lives – the types of story lines that the Hollywood producers crave. Castaneda and her trainer have already appeared as extras in one movie.

Since 2007, Maria “Maggie” Suarez has won more than her share of trophies from the Golden Gloves tournament to the USA Amateur shows.

Maria “Maggie” Suarez and her coach, Willie Flores, workout at the Minami Center in Santa Maria, CA.

Born in Los Angeles, she later moved to Santa Maria at the age of 9 following her mother’s death. She’s dealt with considerable struggles, not to mention becoming a mom at the age of 15. She began her boxing career a little over five years ago, getting an introduction to the sport while watching her son train as part of the Police Athletic League program.

The Chumash Resort Undercard:

CO-main event: Francisco Santana (14-3-1, 7 KOs) of Santa Barbara, CA vs. Dustin Reinhold (5-3-0, 2 KOs) of Fall River, Massachusetts – eight rounds – in the super welterweight division.

Ruffino Serrano (13-4) of Santa Maria vs. Edwin Solis (3-2) of Tijuana, B. C., Mexico – Six-rounds – featherweights.

Valentino Knowles (1-2-1) of Bell Gardens, CA vs. Alejandro Ochoa of the Bahamas who will be making his Pro-debut – Super Featherweights

Eric Prado (0-2-1) of Santa Maria, CA vs. Victor Manuel Medina (3-3-0) of Los Angeles, CA – Middleweights – this is a rematch of Medina’s split decision victory back on May 2, 2012 at the Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica, CA. On March 3, 2012, Medina had to retire after just two rounds when facing Brady Rein of Riverside, CA (2-0) who was making his Pro-debut at the Riverside Convention Center.

Roy Tapia of California (4-0-1, 2 KOs) vs. Jesus Adame (2-10-1) of San Bernardino, CA by way of Guasave, Sinaloa, Mexico, 4 rounds, featherweights.

That’s all she wrote – enjoy the show.
