Donaire vs Narvaez mirrors Pacquiao vs Clottey fiasco

October 22, 2011 No Comments

Nonito Donaire has no problem at all with Omar Andres Narvaez.

Nonito Donaire (27-1, 18 KOs), the WBC/WBO bantamweight champion, scored a twelve round unanimous decision over the previously unbeaten WBO super flyweight champ Omar Andres Narvaez (35-1-2, 19 KOs) on Saturday night at the newly renovated Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The 28 year-old Donaire was the aggressor throughout as the much smaller, 36 year-old, Narvaez did his best imitation of Joshua Clottey the guy who played peek-a-boo for 12 rounds against Manny Pacquiao back on March 13, 2010 at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Texas. As you might imagine, the patrons boo’d rather loudly at both fights.

For this one, all three judges had Donaire winning the match by scores of 120-108, which means the judges gave Donaire every round.

Since Donaire has a reputation for knocking people out, Narvaez may have had a keener interest in proving he could go the distance against the bigger man or maybe he was just interested in the paycheck. For a champion, he didn’t put up much of fight.

Miguel "Mikey" Garcia has his arm raised in victory after defeating Juan Carlos Martinez on October 22, 2011 on the undercard of the Donaire versus Narvaez boxing show.

Miguel “Mikey” Garcia (27-0, 23 KOs) of Oxnard, CA, the WBO NABO and NABF featherweight champ, was very impressive in his destruction of Juan Carlos Martinez (19-13-1, 7 KOs).

Garcia dropped Martinez with a left hook in Round #3 and floored him twice more in Round #4 before the referee called for the stoppage at 2:40 of Round #4. Garcia, considered one of the best finishers in boxing, is now rated #3 by the WBC, the WBA and WBO and #11 by the IBF.
