This evening the weigh-ins took place for tomorrow night’s Bobby D Presents in association with Jorge Marron Productions and Gabriel Barron Promotions boxing show which will be held Friday, July 22, at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in San Diego.

In the main event James Parison (13-1-0, 4 KOs) of South San Diego, who is trained by his father, Max Gutierrez and step brother David Gutierrez, will be  going up against Eddie Hunter (4-6-2, 2 KOs) who trains at the Credit Boxing Gym in Renton, Washington.

Eddie Hunter of Kent, Washington

In Hunter’s last outing he faced the very tough Bastie Samir who was just suspended for taking some performance enhancing drug. In the meeting against Samir, he was knocked out in the third round. Hunter had just nine amateur bouts before turning pro and if you check out his record, you’ll see he has faced some mighty tough hombres, eg. Samir, Dion Savage, Shawn Estrada, Dmitry Chudinov, and Denis Douglin, all undefeated at the time of their meeting.

Joe Del Gadillo of Chula Vista, CA.

In the Co-main event, heavyweight Joe Del Gadillo of Chula Vista is making his debut against the veteran Charles Tucker (3-3-0, 3 KOs) of the Undisputed Fitness & Training Center in El Cajon, by way of Detroit, Michigan. Tucker is as you say, connected through family ties. When growing up he had Mohammad Ali and the Spinks brothers, Michael and  Leon dropping by the house. Tucker first started boxing when he was 11. Since he is new in town, someone asked him, “Where you fighting out of?” His reply, “I’m fighting out of the precious womb of my mother’s jewels.”

After everyone laughed, he answered, “When I was up in Pomona, I worked with Jack Mosley (Sugar Shane Mosley’s dad), then I was at the Marron Boxing Camp in Lakeside and now I’ve settled in at Undisputed gym in El Cajon.”

Tucker, who is now 41 years of age, does have a gut. With Del Gadillo being a young 31 and in excellent shape, he should be able to out-maneuver Tucker.  Like Tucker, Del Gadillo has been hitting the bag since he was 10. The father of four works for San Diego Gas & Electric as  a high voltage lineman.

Like Tucker, Del Gadillo has a great sense of humor. When we discussed his workout regime, he mentioned he enjoys running at the park in Bonita. His buddy mentioned it’s also a great place to see the ladies. Del Gadillo quipped, “That’s why I go there. I run as fast as I can, to see as much as I can.”

On the undercard:

Featherweight Pablo Armenta (5-0-1, 1 KO) puts his unblemished record on the line in a four rounder against Federico Martinez (0-3-0) of Lakeside, CA. Martinez, who has been boxing for a year and a half, is originally from Ensenada, Mexico. He is 29 years old, married with one child. He works for a shipping and receiving company in Santee, CA.

Armenta, who is six years younger, has faced stiffer competition. His toughest fights to date were against Ricky Gutierrez, Danny Pantoja and Ronald Hurley.

Still undefeated, Adrian Vargas of Undisputed Downtown

Light welterweight Adrian Vargas of San Diego (2-0-0, 1 KO) who trains at the Undisputed Downtown faces Franky Martinez (0-2-0) of Las Vegas, Nevada. Martinez moved to the United States from Costa Rica to live with his brother Anthony, also a boxer, who lived in Las Vegas. Then about a year and four months ago, his brother disappeared. Franky Martinez is a member of Real KO Boxing in North Las Vegas, the gym that Daniel Ponce De Leon, the former world champion, uses when training for a fight in Las Vegas.

After their weigh-in, Manuel Sarabia (L) and Adolfo Landeros (R) pose for a photo. Photo: Jim Wyatt

Adolfo Landeros (21-20-1, 10 KOs) who now lives in Calexico, CA. will face Manuel Sarabia of Culliacon, Sinaloa, Mexico (16-31-9, 10 KOs) in a four rounder. Landeros, who has now lost 14 of his last 16 fights, should take note of the people Sarabia, now 33, has faced over his 18 year career, top people like Michael Carbajal, Rico Ramos, Juan Manuel Lopez and Johnny Perez.

That being said, Sarabia should take note of the people Landeros faced, people like Chris Martin, Gary Russell Jr., Michael Franco, and Jhonny Gonzalez. Sarabia has won just seven of his 45 bouts since October of 1995.

Super bantamweight sensation Christopher Martin (22-0-2, 6 KOs) of the Alliance Training Center in Chula Vista is in Tucson, Arizona at the Casino Del Sol to face Jose Silveira (12-3-0, 4 KOs).

At Hollywood Park Casino in Inglewood, CA, Danny “Dynamite” Perez (34-8-0, 17 KOs) of Carlsbad, CA is scheduled to go against Benjamin Diaz (10-4-2, 7 KOs). After losing three in a row, all to the top contenders – first, Carlos Molina, then Erislandy Lara, and then Craig McEwan, Perez is finally back in action after a full year sabbatical.

On the undercard is another local fan favorite Tyrell “Hollywood” Hendrix (6-1-2, 2 KOs) with a boxer to be announced.

As mentioned earlier this week, featherweight Juan Carlos Burgos (26-1-0) of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico is in a 10 rounder against Gilberto Sanchez Leon of Mexicali, B.C., Mexico (31-9-2, 11 KOs). Whereas Burgos is 23 years of age, Leon is now 30.
